Chris is Lecturer in Economics at Aston Business School. He joined the school in September 2018. Prior to that, he held research positions at the University of Surrey and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Chris is an applied economist, primarily focused on the tourism sector. He is well versed in macroeconometric (including vector autoregression and time series models) and spatial econometric methods. One of his long-standing research interests lies in examining the economic and political factors underlying cross-border tourist flows and investigating the international transmission of tourism demand cycles. His research is also concerned with the global business environment, assessing the economic impact of shocks, such as financial crises, terrorist incidents and tax scandals, in a globalisation context to draw out implications for firm strategy and regional development.
Chris has published articles in top-tier journals, including Tourism Management, Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Travel Research, and International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management. He is also an experienced reviewer, serving more than 20 leading journals in tourism, economics and management.
Apart from academic research, Chris has undertaken a number of externally funded projects for policymakers at, for example, the European Commission. He is proficient with impact assessment methods such as input-output analysis and synthetic control methods, and has applied them to policy research.
On the education side, Chris has previously reviewed popular textbooks in economics, finance and statistics for Pearson Education and Cengage Learning and has contributed case studies as well.
