My main research field is empirical finance. Almost all of my published work is on different aspects of asset pricing models, volatility and of macro-finance, the study of the interactions between the financial and 'real' markets. Further in the theme of macro-finance my recent publications are addressing the implications of exogenous factors in bond risk premia, and the importance of financial market developments for the macroeconomic outlook adopted by professional forecasters.
In the light of the traumatic experiences of 2008 this is now a very promising area of research interest having enjoyed very rapid growth.
The recent crisis highlighted the possible inadequacies of the dominant pricing models and our lack of understanding of governance of financial institutions. With one of my current PhD students we are working in this area as bank governance, risk taking and credit rating agencies as their interaction was deemed a major issue during the crisis.
I am also working in refining linear pricing models by establishing the factor’s structure necessary for efficient pricing under different imperfections and limitations.
I have developed an interest in the economics of information security, with emphasis on the issues of cyber-security. With my colleagues from the Departments of Computer Science (UCL, Bath) we were able to develop behavioural models, addressing the issues of cybersecurity, leading to the development of improved security policies and institutional regulatory design
