Biography

I am a Lecturer in Forensic Linguistics in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics. Before joining Aston, I was a Lecturer at the University of Reading and an Associate Lecturer at Monash University, Australia, where I also did my PhD.

Research Interests

My research is on language aggression and impoliteness. I am interested in online offensive language, cyberbullying, online abuse and hate comments. I also have an interest in analysing the role of the ‘offendee’, or rather the ‘victim’, in online abuse and bullying and how it can potentially lead to proposing preventative measures. I look at these issues through the lens of pragmatics and discourse analysis.

I have conducted extensive research on impoliteness and aggression in both online and face-to-face interactions. Outputs of these projects have been published in some of the leading journals of the field.
