    Biography

    I re-joined Aston in 2023, and am a Reader in Computer Science. My research is concerned with population-based multiobjective optimization and metaheuristics, multi-criteria decision analysis, and mathematical and statistical aspects of optimization theory. 

    Previously, I was a Professor at the CEFET-MG (CERCIA) in the Department of Computer Engineering, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. I obtained my Ph.D. at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, on the topic of Local Search operators for Genetic Algorithms based on derivative-free quadratic approximation.  I also hold an MSc in Mathematics from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, and before that, I read for a BSc in Mathematics at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais.

    Teaching Activity

    My teaching includes programming, computational intelligence and mathematics. 

    Research Interests

    I am interested in multiobjective optimization, evolutionary algorithms, experimental assessment of algorithms, dynamical systems, and engineering design optimization.

    My work is concerned with both abstract problems as well as applied ones. I have a number of ongoing collaborations with engineers and international universities and have worked on hybrid micro grid systems for generation and distribution of renewable energy sources.
