Biography

Gayatri joined Aston University as a Lecturer in Law in September 2014. She is the Programme Director for the Law and Law with Management programmes at Aston Law School. She currently teaches, and convenes, the modules of International Human Rights Law and Legal Skills and System on the undergraduate programme. 

Gayatri convenes a number of outreach projects, which include: the St Philips Chambers Conference; Access to Professions Conference; Aston Law School Masterclasses, as well as being involved in a number of student recruitment activities throughout the year.

Gayatri also sits on the University Disciplinary Panel and the Aston Business School, Ethics Committee. She also holds the position of an external examiner for LLB and LLM programmes at two universities.  

Prior to joining Aston University, she worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Leicester, where she taught Land Law on the LL.B programme for a number of years. During this time, she was also a research assistant for two editions of R. Sexton and B. Bogusz, Complete: Land Law, Cases and Materials (OUP, 2011 & 2013). Prior to this, Gayatri was a Teacher in Law at an Independent Sixth Form Grammar School.

Research Interests

Gayatri's primary research interests lie in the areas of implementation and monitoring of international human rights at the United Nations, with a focus on: women's rights, children's rights and LGBTI rights. Currently, her research focuses on examining the workings of the United Nations' Universal Periodic Review process. 

Gayatri welcomes PhD proposals in her areas of research.
