    Biography

    Martin George joined Aston University as Professor of Law and Associate Dean of Aston Law School in February 2024. Before that, he was Professor of Land Law and Deputy Head of Department at The City Law School. His primary research and teaching interests lie in land law and property law theory.

    After studying at the Universities of Leicester and Nottingham, Martin was a College Lecturer at Hertford College, Oxford before taking up the Lectureship in Land Law at the University of Birmingham from 2009-14. He was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Prize 2013 at Birmingham. He then spent 7 years at the University of Leicester, as the Associate Professor of Property Law, and was voted Lecturer of the Year in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020 by the law students at Leicester. He was also the recipient of a University Distinguished Teaching Fellowship there in July 2019.

    Martin is the co-author of Thompson’s Modern Land Law (8th edn, Oxford University Press 2022), one of the subject's leading texts. He sits on the Board of Modern Studies in Property Law (MSPL), the pre-eminent specialist association for property law academics. Martin was appointed as Professeur invité at Université Paris Nanterre in 2023. 

    In 2017, Martin was elected as an Academic Fellow of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple. He is also an Associate Member of Gatehouse Chambers, a leading chancery and property law chambers in London.
