    Personal profile

    Biography

I have recently joined the University as Professor of Equity and Inclusion and Deputy Dean (People, Culture, Inclusion) within the College of Business and Social Sciences. My research explores psychosocial factors in long-term conditions, emphasizing how patient experience relates to protected characteristics and wider determinants of health. I have collaborated with a wide range of stakeholders to reshape thinking on health disadvantage, particularly in kidney research. I aim to use science as a tool for driving health equity, employing mixed methods to broaden evidence that translates to practice. Working with multi-disciplinary teams in the UK and abroad, I have contributed more than £4 million in funding for research aimed at narrowing health gaps.

My previous academic leadership roles have included Head of Department, Associate Dean, Executive Lead for Equality and Widening Participation, and other institution wide positions. I contribute a unique perspective as the first in my family to enter university and as someone with an accelerated leadership trajectory whilst balancing teaching and research. I truly believe that higher education can be transformative and work to drive a culture that enables this for colleagues and students in a forward thinking and sustainable way.

Actively involved in community, I chair the Board of the Swindon South Asian Performing Arts Centre, serve as a Trustee at Kidney Care UK, and participate in the Police Now Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Recognized for leadership in people and culture, I was a finalist in the Asian Women of Achievement Awards (2023) and listed among the UK's 50 kind leaders. My research has also received numerous awards for championing inclusion.
