Research Interests

Tony's research interests are broadly in the field of Software Engineering with main results in two  specific areas:

  1. System Modelling. This work has produced an approach to language engineering for system modelling and an associated tool called XModeler. Part of this work contributed to the UML language standard and the associated Object Constraint Language (OCL).
  2. Technology for building simulation models using agents. This has produced the programming language ESL and an associated approach that uses adaptation and machine learning to simulate complex systems using agents that meet specified goals.

Tony is a Professor of Software Engineering and Deputy Dean in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. After completing a BSc in Computer Science, Tony worked for Marconi Research for 9 years before becoming an academic at Bradford University and then King's College London. He co-founded a company and served as Technical Director for 5 years before returning to academia as Head of Department of Computer Science at Middlesex University.
