    Research Interests

    Reseach interests

    My research interests include high speed, optical fibre communication systems, optical devices and sub-systems, and enabling technologies for future, extreme ultra-wideband optical networks.  I am a former Royal Society Industry Fellow & and former EPSRC Manufacturing Fellow, and presently hold the EFFECT Photonics / Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Highly Integrated Coherent optical fiber Communications.


    Since returning to Aston I developed new courses for our Applied Physics degree in (i) Electromagnetism (EE2EMG) and (ii) “Mathematical Methods II” (AP2MM2) (aka Computational Physics), and served as Programme Director for Applied Physics.  I have also delivered final year courses in Digital Transmission (EE3DTR) and “Digital Communications and Information Theory” (EE4DCI).
