Abstract
The rail industry functions thanks to the many workers who come from a variety of academic backgrounds. Jobs range anywhere from engineering, conducting, train operating to business and marketing etc; the rail industry heavily relies on a diverse range of specialism to thrive. A research-based learning approach should be augmented to help and prosper highly skilled professionals. Academic programmes relying on strong "input and output based, professor-lea approach" are generally designed for passive learners. A format which allows students to learn in an active and practical manner is required to strengthen the current practice. The innovative, contextual learning and interactive learner engagement have proved to be significantly more effective in learning. A final verdict includes that a range of teaching and learning methods need to be employed to enrich rail higher education.
