Argues that the basic emotion of disgust is important not only to many aspects of daily life but also is central to a range of psychiatric phenomena. Specific topics discussed include psychoanalytic theories, the biology of disgust, the neurology of emotion perception, and disgust and obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, depression, eating disorders, and other psychiatric disorders.
