Abstract
Dispersion compensation via mid-span spectral inversion is demonstrated for the first time in a semiconductor optical amplifier monolithically integrated with a distributed feedback pump laser. A 40Gbit/s signal is successfully transmitted over a span of more than 100km of standard fibre.
