title = "Immigration Statistics in French Online Comment Boards: Mistrust Discourse, Anti-migrant Hate Speech",
abstract = "This chapter explores the discursive markers used by Internet commentators to express their mistrust of scientists regarding immigration statistics in France. In online comments collected from the mainstream media Le Figaro and Le Monde, it observes Internet users who adopt stances of mistrust or rejection of scientists and the media. The aim of this analysis is to investigate how the discourses of Internet users coexist with hate speech against migrants by attacking academia and scientists and disqualifying the media. Hate speech against migrants is analysed as a social phenomenon and as a polyphonic construct, whose targets go beyond migrants themselves.",
