N2 - The effects of two component combinations of soluble iron compounds on the rate of photooxidation and associated embrittlement times of low density polyethylene (LDPE) are examined. It is found that photoantioxidants retard the photo prooxidant effects of iron compounds giving controllable induction periods. In the case of the combination of a nickel dithiocarbamate (photoantioxidant) and an iron dithiocarbamate (photo prooxidant) a very wide range of embrittlement times can be obtained in which the induction period is controlled by the nickel complex and the post-induction period rate by the iron complex.
