Abstract

This chapter summarises some playful activities I use in my classes to teach accounting. Accountants and accounting have a stereotype of being boring which undermines the importance of accounting, and accounting students typically lack the intrinsic motivation to study the course and rather choose it for its monetary rewards after graduation. The aforementioned stereotype and lack of intrinsic motivation increase the value of playful learning for accounting subjects. The chapter gives some diverse examples of playful learning activities I use whilst teaching accounting, such as poetry, role playing games, academic reading, newspaper and video scripts, as well as merging a student response system with assessments.
