In essence, social engineering is an umbrella term which here encompasses those acts perpetrated through lying, manipulation, persuasion, impersonation, misdirection and deceitfulness in order to gain the social engineer’s objective. If you think of how a con-artist works, then you have a good idea of a form of social engineering.
