Although the solvolytic elimination reaction of beta-halogenoalkyltrialkylsilanes has been the subject of many investigations, and several mechanisms have been proposed for the elimination reaction, some aspects of the work had not been covered. In an attempt to acquire more information concerning the nature of the intermediate, a study of the stereochemistry of the reaction was undertaken.
